Bureaux’s New Skin Based on Kubrick

On Sunday, after deciding to commit myself to setting up a blog for petiteMort, I took on the task of designing and building a blog for petiteMort using WordPress’ blog management platform. It took me 3 incredibly long days to get it up and running!!!

I have to admit, I wasted the first day posing as a code warrior; I was convinced that I had to set up a local MySQL database and start-up the websharing with PHP on my local on my laptop, which -by the way- I managed to do after a few Google searches, just to enable Dreamweaver to properly display the php files locally and access a local testing database. But late that night, when I realized I hadn’t gotten close to the real goal, I admitted to defeat. I would have to come up with a different way to have Bureaux up and running by the end of the week -but first not with out some sleep.

The next day, after my morning coffee, I decided that instead of taking on PHP and MySQL I would simply design a skin around the existing default theme that is based on a theme by Michael Heilmann called Kubrick. The layout by the way wasn’t anything I was used to: it was built without tables, only layers controlled by a billion css styles. But by noon I had been able to work my way around the basic structure of the site and understand a tiny bit more about how the stylesheets where controlling everything in the site. I finally started to design the skin after I had a good idea of my restrictions. Around midnight that night I was able upload the first version of the site but I wasn’t completely satisfied with the design.

Finally, this moring I was able to get to a comfortable place with the design and start re-cutting & uploading the new parts. Now I’m just looking forward to populating it by the week’s end so I can do some sort of soft launch on Monday… Well have to see how far I get.
