Couple years ago I used to go to these free film screening in the East Village on weekends. It was called the Downtown Cinema Club and it was curated by artist Matt Bakkom and his friends. All the selections were base on the New York Public Library’s film archive. I love going there and simply being surprised by the random selection of experimental, educational (like Where Did Toothpaste Came From?), and all the films that never made it to the light… Well, Downtown Cinema Club is no more, but the Wishing Well Cine Club from L.A. will be doing two days of free film screenings this Friday and Saturday as part of Ect., arranged by Matt Keegan at the Andrew Kerps Gallery in Chelsea with the same spirit. -P.T., NYC
