Intimate Genetic Portraiture

Cooper Union Alumni Kevin Clarke is having another show of his genetic portraits. His portraits begin with the DNA analysis of a swab of check tissue or a hair root. He then over lays their genetic code with carefully selected images that relate to the subject. While he is definitely onto something new with these very intimate portraits, the presence of overlaid DNA sequences still occasionally comes across as an experimental word search puzzle. Above is one of the least word-search-y portrait by Kevin Clarke: Portrait of Herm Davis, Chromogenic print under acrylic panel 34.5 x 60 inches, 1999.
