Curating the Whitney Biennial
A panel discussion will be held on, as the title says, the curating of the Whitney Biennal this coming Monday Jan 23rd at The New School’s Tishman Auditorium NYC. Both the present and a few of the past curators will be on stage to discuss questions like “What where you thinking when you included so-and-so in that years biennial?”
The Whitney Biennial 2006, which opens on March 2, will be the first in the 70 yr. history that will include American artist working abroad and artist not from America but working inside of America, as well as the original cast who were actually born here and make art here. None-the-less a twisted group of artist. Maybe in 2008 they should curate a show of only artist who were born in America, make art in America but are not at all American in their work or any other variation on the theme as long as the word America appears in the press release.
Panelists will include
Chrissie Iles
Klaus Kertess
Louise Neri
Elisabeth Sussman
Marcia Tucker
and Philippe Vergne
Tim Griffin, Artforum Magazine’s Editor-in-Chief will moderate.
