I woke up this morning not expecting to peek in the art-blogsphere, hoping to concentrate on other projects (frecklesStudio) when I stumbled on an Amy Sillman free-for-all blog post. There’s a both a lot of criticism and support for Amy Sillman’s paintings in the comments, if you’re interested.
“I certainly don’t think my work is like undergrad Guston, like you said– I thought that was a low blow. But it’s Gustony, for sure.
-Amy Sillman’s response to being called a “decorative flourish” on painterNYC blog
As far as dialogues regarding modern painting are concerned, I thought this quote, albeit out of context, was worthy of pulling. I mean, what’s so bad about being a Guston Undergrad?

Oh man, that cracks me up! I was just doing some research about her when I came across this blog and read that thread. I almost feel sorry for her (almost), but it’s a good chance to defend herself in a public forum.
