In honor of his would be 90th birthday WFMU‘s Irwin Chusid and guest Robert Scotto are hosting a show dedicated to the late Moondog (1916-1999) today from 1-2pm. For those who were old enough to remember he was a blind composer of modern minimalist music. Besides his music, he was also know for walking 6th avenue in New York in a viking costume. When I read the information about him, I recalled seeing a tall ominous figure dressed as a samurai wandering around the grounds of the Metropolitan Opera but that was in 1994, Moondog’s reign was in the 1950′s & 60′s. Different figure of course but none-the-less color on the streets. I tried to see if anyone had made a page on the various street people of New York like Moondog and Rammellzee. No luck so far. post it here if anyone knows of one.

If you miss the show, WFMU usually archives every show so check back to Irwin Chusid’s Archive page.
