Broader Border Debate
Just got a ridiculous email this morning from a company called Slick Times out of Rancho Santa Fe, CA. The email suggest we should all go to Mexico and demand the Mexican government give us all the same that the US government gives to it’s illegal immigrants. It’s funny to note that most of the people protesting illegal immigrants are the ones living near the borders of Mexico. If they did a little history research on these regions they would quickly learn that the natives in the lower part of North America are not crossing the border, instead, as one protester’s sign read, “the border has crossed them”.
Speak only English at home and in public and insist that your children do likewise.
Demand classes on American culture in the Mexican school system.
The disputed area was not only home to countless native tribes, but the Spanish did hold most of the southern and western areas of land from the Yucatan to Oregon. Speaking Spanish should have always been a part of that region’s heritage. A bilingual part of the US, that would be amazing. Getting in touch with history after the dust has settled is not a bad thing either.
The map above was from 1776, this map below is from a Census taken in 2000, look at how generous we have been to the American Indians. I like to point out how Texas hasn’t given anything back to the native tribes, Apache, Comanche, Natchez. (wiki: American indians and Alaskan Natives Map)
