Subject: [Gvshp] Important Meetings this Thursday re: Post Office Air Rights
and Saving 128 East 13th StreetDear Friend,
I wanted to be sure that you knew about two important public meetings this
Thursday on issues GVSHP has been working on.1) Thursday, September 7th at 1:30: Landmarks Preservation Commission
Emergency Hearing re: 128 East 13th Street. The LPC will hold a public
hearing regarding this immediately endangered building in their hearing room
at One Centre Street (at Chambers Street), 9th floor. PLEASE COME TESTIFY
IN SUPPORT OF IMMEDIATE LANDMARK DESIGNATION. Bring 12 copies of your
testimony so you can submit written testimony even if you can’t stay to
speak. For more information and sample speaking points, go to
http://www.gvshp.org/stable.htm ; also see
coverage in this Sunday’s New York Times at
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/09/03/nyregion/thecity/03hors.html?_r=1&oref=slogin
.2) Thursday September 7th at 5:30 pm: Tribeca Committee of Community
Board #1 hearing re: transfer of Post Office Air Rights from Canal Street
Station for 20-story hotel. The Community Board will examine the issues
raised by GVSHP regarding the Post Office’s sale of its air rights at this
location WITHOUT subjecting the sale to required Section 106 review of the
sale’s impact upon historic resources. Come show your support for a strong
resolution calling upon the Post Office to stop violating the law and
protect the character of our neighborhoods. The meeting is at 49-51 Chambers
Street, room 709 (note: this is item #3 of 17 on the committee’s agenda, so
expect this item to begin sometime after 5:30 and discussion to be limited
for time). For more information, see http://www.gvshp.org/USPS.htmAndrew Berman, Executive Director
