The free newspapers distributed in an around subway stations in New York City are under attack but not in the same way CNN was attacked for covering the realities of the war in Iraq. The freely distributed newspapers such as AM New York and New York Metro are reportedly clogging up the MTA subway systems’ drains, causing fires and flooding in certain areas underground. But is that any reason to ban them? And what about the New York Daily News or New York Post? I’d rather they ban take-away menus from being dumped in doorways and building entrances. Who to ban is not really the point here, more attention should be payed to New York subway riders, which I feel have a very low etiquette rating compared to riders in other big city like London, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Paris. But we’ll save that for another post. One with loads of photographic evidence.
“We have complained bitterly for a long time about the free newspapers. We must stop the distribution of free newspapers on our property, or require these papers to be kept in bins where they cannot end up on the subway tracks,” Mr. Feinstein, head of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority investigative task force, said.
