Al-Jazeera English TV Goes Live

Launching last Wednesday, Al-Jazeera launched it’s international english TV channel, but it is having trouble finding a company who will carry the channel in the US. I wonder why? Many say that it’s more of a financial issue than anything else. It’ll take sometime for Al-Jezeera to be accepted by the American public and broadcasting industry. It seems a different perspective on global affairs can be, to say the least, a bit worrisome for some people. We’ll just have to wait then, in the meantime, somewhat true freedom of press can still be found online. Since 2003, Al-Jazeera’s english website for non-arabic speakers, and very recently has redesigned the look, giving it a more substantial feel. After a while it’s going to be difficult for the US government to dismiss this news network as illigitimate.

Al-Jazeera expects to reach 80 Million English speaking households around the world, giving the other international news channels a run for their money.

Oh, I might have also blogged about this before, but about the same time the Al-Jazeera launched their english version website, another “Al-Jazeera” dot com website appeared (based in England with a post office box in Dubai, go figure.) For a while it even looked like the real Al-Jazeera website. Now, curiously enough, there is a US website spelled with an “h” at the end. It’s almost like using the name nytimes.info and trying to run a news agency out of it. Theres really only one reason for these copy-cats, and that’s mis-information.

The real URL for Al-Jazeera is http://english.aljazeera.net
